Virtues of seeking forgiveness from Allah

Seeking forgiveness from Allah is one of the foremost reasons for salvation, as indicated by the following Quranic verses and narrations of the Prophet.

“O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance” [66:8].

“Turn to Allah together, O believers in repentance, so that you may prosper” [24:31].

“And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful” [4:110].

“And seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. He will provide you with a good provision for a specified term and graciously reward those who do good. But if you turn away, then I truly fear for you the torment of a formidable Day” [11:3].

Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet said, “Whoever increases his prayers for forgiveness, Allah will grant him relief from every worry, a way out from every hardship, and provide for him in ways he does not expect (Ahmad).

Abu Hurayrah narrates that I heard the Prophet say: “By Allah, I seek forgiveness and turn to Allah more than seventy times daily. In another narration, it says, “a hundred times” (Bukhari)

It emphasises that all true help comes from Allah, but the Prophet ﷺ is the means and intercessor through whom mercy and ease are sought.
